Stefan Thanneur, bassist and vocalist for French avant-garde metal trio Chaos Echoes, has teamed up with Voivod drummer and visual artist Michel Langevin to form Ocre.
The two tracks showcase the throbbing primitivism of Thanneur’s work in Chaos Echoes, combined with the interstellar coldness of Langevin’s drumming in Voivod. “Ocre Rouge” is a pummeling work with massively distorted bass and waves of noise laid over a relentlessly pounding beat, while “Ocre Jaune” is an ominous, atmospheric piece, with effects that ring like ghosts flitting between the bass strings as surprisingly jazzy drums echo from the next room. This is a unique collaboration that combines the strengths of each member’s previous work to create something entirely new.
