NEW MUSIC FOR OLD GODS

Musicians, artists, and designers Kevin Gan Yuen (Sutekh Hexen, EERIÆRMOR, etc.), and Jamie Lawson (Sistra, Ex-Corpse) were asked by Utech Records to initiate a long-distance, cross-border collaboration. The only direction was that the duo were to work together on the entitreity of music, art, and design for the release.

Beginning in 2024, Jamie sent recordings of prepared acoustic guitar experiments to Kevin, some skeletal soft synth and drum machine sketches, which prepared the tone of these initial recordings — resembling gamelan-meets-pocket dub — establishing a curious foundation upon which Kevin began elaborating a strata of electric guitar, granular synthesis and noise. The inspired-sonic combinations flourished, and the pair traded files, ideas, and conversation over the next many months, weaving together what would become The Long Dissolve.

The resulting emergence may differ from what one might expect of the collision of these two artists, though anyone familiar with either’s work may recognize idiosyncrasies: a phrase here, a sonic event there, a general quality of paranoia and deliverance.

Echoing metal strings entwine with droning psychedelia. Shadowy sub-bass rhythms underpin a hazy clamour. Seething howls suspend distant chattering. Electrostatic awareness charging dew-drops of warped perception.
